Baptism is the doorway to our faith and the rest of the sacraments: "Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit (vitae spiritualis ianua), and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission: "Baptism is the sacrament of regeneration through water in the word." (CCC 1213)
Baptism is a wonderful time for you and your child. Very often parents have been away from their faith and find themselves returning to the faith with the birth of their child. We invite parents to begin anew when they have their child baptised. The parents are the primary educators of their children's faith1 If you have been away we invite you to go on a journey of faith as your baby learns and grows as a child of Christ.
Please call the parish offices at 508-947-0444 to schedule your child's baptism. We require that parents attend an in-person baptism preparation class so they may be reacquainted with the sacrament and their faith.
Please note that Godparents must be over 16, confirmed in the Catholic faith and in a regular marriage (or single and never married, or widowed. While your family friend or relative is a "good person" but not Catholic they cannot be a Godparent to your child. The role of the Godparent is to aid the parents and to help bring up the child in the faith. If a potential Godparent is Jewish, Hindu, or Protestant you will need to select a new Godparent who is Catholic. Please contact us if you have specific questions regarding godparents.
