Here you will find a wealth of information on all things Liturgical and Sacramental in our Collaborative, along with the occasional article explaining why we do what we do as Catholics.
The word "liturgy" comes from the mid 16th century: via French or late Latin from Greek leitourgia ‘public service, worship of the gods’, from leitourgos ‘minister’, from lēitos ‘public’ + -ergos ‘working’. Thus when we celebrate our liturgy (the Mass and Liturgy of the Hours) it is a public work or more precicisely worship of the community.
In Catholicism, the sacraments are efficacious signs of grace, instituted by Christ and entrusted to the Church, by which divine life is dispensed to us. The visible rites by which the sacraments are celebrated signify and make present the graces proper to each sacrament.
The Sacraments of Initiation are: Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist
The Sacraments of Healing are: Reconciliation and Anointing of the Sick
The Sacraments of Service are :Marriage and Holy Orders.
