We offer these selections to help you choose appropriate music for the Mass of Christian Burial. It is not an exclusive list, and we are open to your suggestions provided that they adhere to the liturgical norms of the Archdiocese of Boston. The choice of music for Christian funerals must be in accord with all recommendations governing music in the liturgy. Specifically the texts should express the paschal mystery of Christ’s suffering, death and resurrection and be related to the Word of God (OCF #30). Secular music is not appropriate for liturgical celebrations (Sing to the Lord: Music In Divine Worship, #246). The Music Director will select appropriate music if desired.
Below are some suggestions for music selections. Each parish has an extensive repertoire and will have more songs available than are listed here. Every effort will be made to accommodate special requests.
