It should be noted that what we present here are volunteer requirements of the Archdiocese of Boston. Failure to adhere to these policies will lead to removal of a parishioner, or employee, from ministry, or employment. Questions: Contact Holly Clark at 508-947-0444.
The complete volunteer packet contains a cover letter with VIRTUS info, the CORI Form, Volunteer Application, Volunteer Code of Conduct and Massachusetts Sexual Harassment Statement. As of Fiscal Year 23-24 ALL volunteers will receive and complete the volunteer packet. Thereafter new volunteers only will receive the full packet.
The Archdiocese of Boston requires each volunteer fill out an application, or info, form. If the volunteer will be working directly with hildren they will need to provide the names of two references. Emergency contact info is helpful when a volunteer has an accident or medical emergency that requires informing a family member or friend.
Volunteer References for Those Working Directly with Children
If you work directly with children you must provide two names as references. If you have served a long-time in this capacity your mimistry leader may provide one of the references.
Criminal Background Screening is a requirement of the Archdiocese of Boston. It is not meant to accuse anyone of wrongdoing and has put in place as a deterrent to would be predators.
The PGC program is a three hour training session held in person through St. Isidore Parish or another parish in the Archdiocese of Boston. The training helps our volunteers to be the eyes and ears for protecting all of God's children and our most vulnerable. The volunteer is trained to recognize the signs of abuse and how to report to the proper authorities. This training only needs to be done once. Failure to complete this training will result in dismissal from ministry.
Annually the Archdiocesan Code of Conduct is distributed to all volunteers.
In the state of Massachusetts all church volunteers are mandated reporters which means that if a volunteer suspects a child, the elderly or disabled has been abused he or she has an obligation to report the situation directly to the state authorities.
In the state of Massachusetts, church volunteers are considered employees of the church- as such, per law, the state's Sexual Harassment Statement is distributed to all volunteers.
